In the second week, “Sustainable Travel 2024” took us to Wuhan and Zhangye. Vlogger Baojong and Sun Fengren visited and shared two EU-China cooperation projects: China-Europe Center for Clean and Renewable Energy at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and “Rural Sustainable Energy Integrated Network Project” (RurEnergy Project) in Jing’an City, Zhangye, Gansu In the province.

EU-China Incubator for New Green Technology
Baojong rode a bicycle to the China-EU Center for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE), Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan. It was a 6.5 km trip, reducing carbon emissions by about 1.3 kg.
The institute is an example of EU-China cooperation in the fields of education and scientific research. Baojong learned how the international academic environment and advanced research centers provided by ICARE train professionals with conceptual knowledge and practical experience in clean energy and develop ideas and solutions to global challenges strength. Funded by the EU, the center facilitates technical exchange and talent development, strengthening the Center’s research and education capacity in the field of clean energy. A prime example of this cooperation is the Institute’s ongoing research on carbon dioxide energy supply systems, which shows how EU-China cooperation is driving energy innovation.
While visiting the Institute’s laboratories, Baojong learned about some of the latest developments in clean energy technology. This technology is expected to provide new solutions for the world’s energy problems. He saw a wall of achievements showing a series of achievements by the Center under the framework of EU-China cooperation. Through a combination of teaching programs and research projects, the Institute contributes to the development of environmental protection. While talking to graduates of the Institute, Baojong heard about how they use these lessons in their career development and lifestyle.
EU-China’s Journey to a Sustainable Energy Village: The Rural Sustainable Energy Network Project
Location: Jing’an City, Zhangye, Gansu Province
On this trip, Sun Fengren rode a bicycle on a rural and rural road in Jing’an City, Zhangye for 10 kilometers, saving 2 kilograms of carbon.
During this visit, Sun Fengren got an insight into the “Rural Sustainable Energy Integrated Network Project” (RurEnergy Project), a cooperative effort under the EU-China partnership. Implemented within the EU’s Switch-Asia Programme, the project aims to promote the transition to sustainable energy in rural areas. The EU and China are jointly supporting the implementation of the project by providing technical assistance, business model improvements, and financial studies. The project team incorporated advanced European technologies and used successful examples from other Chinese provinces to improve the project’s impact.
In an interview with Sun Fengren, the project team leader emphasized that the project has greatly improved local life. Technologies, such as solar thermal systems, have improved the quality of heating and reduced environmental pollution. Sun Fengren, in his interviews with residents, noted a notable improvement in daily comfort since the adoption of renewable energy.
Sun Fengren believes that this project not only improves the development of energy for rural areas, but also promotes the use of renewable energy, effectively reducing dependence on coal. These efforts have collectively improved environmental conditions and improved public health. With projects like this, Sun Fengren sees a positive effect of EU-China cooperation in promoting sustainable development.

On this week’s trip, we had a steady life in Zhangye, Gansu Province and Wuhan, Hubei Province after trips @Crazy Sunand @Baojong. Baojong better understands the impact of EU-China cooperation on education, the positive role of environmental protection systems, and the importance of cultural exchange. In Zhangye, Sun Fengren saw how a sustainable rural energy system can help improve the living conditions of the local community. Cooperation between the EU and China on low-carbon training and knowledge sharing on sustainable energy can have a positive impact on the environment and people’s lives. These methods can motivate more people to contribute to a more sustainable society.
Our next stop will be Beijing. What stories about EU-China cooperation on the process will we find here? Follow the Sustainability journey to find out!
